Anna Howell (b. 2002, Cheshire) is a South-East London Based practitioner,
whose photographic practice draws from long-term engagement with and in
response to people and place, often in her locality, through participatory and socially
engaged methodologies. She is interested in the conversations and questions
around community, photography as collaboration and co-authorship in
image-making.
Howell graduated with her bachelors in Photography from London College of Communication, in 2023.
Her artistic and writing practices are rooted in community engagement and collaboration, where she seeks to explore imagery, moving-image and text, as forms of exchange and agency. Acknowledging the porous boundaries between process and ouput, Howell seeks to understand shared photographic experiences as common ground, for building community.
Recent projects have led her to work alongside primary and secondary school students and nonprofit organisations, as well as galleries and charities, in particular, the Chisenhale Gallery and the US Charitable Trust. Her work has been published in the British Journal of Photography and shown in various public and private spaces, including Lewisham Shopping Centre and the Houses of Parliament.
