In Collaboration with Nika / Mamoud / Akelulu / Fereydoon / Nazanin / Niyosha / Hope Cafe
“I’m gonna record” is an attempt at opening up the process of collaborative filmmaking, sharing a window into the porous boundaries between ideas around co-production and how we can visually resolve such socially-focussed methods of production.
Building on long-term relationships forged through a drop-in for refugees and asylum seekers, the film documents the engagement between those who have expressed an interest in the photographic process, the camera, and Anna, herself. These interactions enact as an initial entry point into a dialogue around one of the many forms that collaboration can take.
Since 2019, Anna has been volunteering at Hope Cafe, a drop-in for assylum seekers and refugees, in her hometown. The project comes full circle back to one of her earliest bodies of work, with the same Iranian family who she grew to know over a period of time that they lived together, in the early months of 2020, before lockdown hit.
